Dr. Breckinridge was born near Lexington, Ky., July 22, 1803. In 1831 he entered the ministry as pastor of the church at Maysville, Ky. A few years after he was called to the Second Presbyterian Church at Baltimore, and at the same time was offered the Professorship of Ancient Languages in Centre College, which he accepted. In 1836 he began the pastorate over the First Church of Louisville, where he remained for twenty-three years. From there he went to Mississippi as President of Oakland College, and in 1863 was called to the head of our college, which he served for five years. He died December 26, 1876, in Cass county, Mo.
