Byron--William Henry Ashelford, 81, Byron, IL, Born at home December 25, 1930, passed away August 31, 2012 at home. He was the son of Walter J. and Agnes (Joslin) Ashelford. Married Mable Ray in Byron, IL on February 10, 1951. Graduated from Byron High School (BHS) 1948, and attended Cornell College and Northern Illinois University (NIU). Bill dairy farmed for over 60 years in the Sycamore and Oregon areas, was an athletic award winner at BHS, played basketball at NIU and football at Cornell and was a past member of the Ogle County Farm Bureau and the National Farmers Organization (NFO). Survived by his wife Mable of Byron, children William Ray of Byron, Ronald Ray (Crystal) of Byron, Victoria Ann Holland of Madison, WI, Robert Ray (Terri) of Byron, and grandchildren Thomas Robert Ashelford of Byron and Catherine Elizabeth Ashelford( Mark Ragland - Financee) of Alexandria, VA, brother Lyle E Ashelford, Lincoln, Neb., and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, brothers Elwin, Earl, Donald, sisters Helen and Marilyn, and parents-in-law, Bluford and Blanche Ray. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the United Church of Byron, 2nd & Colfax, with Rev. Michael Mulberry officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00-7:00 PM in the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant St., Byron. Burial will be in Byron Cemetery. The family requests memorials to: The United Church of Byron, Hospice or Ogle County 4-H Federation.
