William E. Beltz, president of the Alaska Senate, died November 21 in the Anchorage Native Service Hospital, where he had undergone two operations for the removal of a brain tumor. He was 48. Born at Haycock, on Seward Peninsula, April 27, 1912, Senator Beltz lived in Unalakleet. He was at one time state president of the Carpenters Union and had held other labor positions in Alaska. He was elected to the territorial House of Representatives in 1948 and to the Senate in 1950 and had served continuously in the Senate since then. Senator Beltz is survived by his wife, Arne, four small children, three children by a previous marriage, and his mother.  [Feb1961]
