OREGON -Robert Leland Anderson, age 86, of Oregon IL, died Thursday April 22, 2010 at Oregon Health Care Center.. Bob, the adopted son and only child of Albin and Hulda (Swenson) Anderson, was born in Rockford IL on April 18, 1924. He attended Rockford Schools and received his GED at East High School following four years of service in World War II. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps at Camp Grant in Rockford, and was initially stationed at Sioux Falls IA, Boca Raton FL, and Madison WI in radio repair. From 1943-45, he was stationed with the 411th Air Services Squadron in Barrackpore, India (near Calcutta, now Kolkata, Bengal). As a Technical Sergeant, he oversaw wing assembly and system checks on P-51, P-47, P-39 and A-25 aircraft and worked in the motor pool supporting the operations of the China-Burma-India campaign. He was a lifetime member of the Oregon VFW Post 8379. After WWII, he continued his automotive training and worked first as a district manager and then a national parts manager for American Motors Corporation (Kenosha WI, Detroit MI), retiring in 1982. He then became Sales Manager for Humphrey Cadillac-Oldsmobile in Rockford IL until full retirement in 1992. Socially, he was a member of the Moose Lodge 1551 in Mt. Morris. Married in 1946 to Agnes Dolan of Cherry Valley, IL, they were married more than 63 years and produced four sons: Robert L., Jr. (Linn), El Paso TX; Philip M. (Judith), Larchmont NY; Bradley D. (Jo Ann), Stillwater MN; and Jeffrey A., Dawson IL. Bob is also survived by grandchildren Jonathan Anderson, Kathleen (Michael) Castleberry, Michael (Pam) Anderson, and Tracy Anderson, all of suburban Dallas TX; Kevin (Han Mi) Anderson, Waukesha WI; and, Alec Anderson, Dawson IL. Step-grandchildren include Sharon (Sean) Brady, Mohegan Lake NY and Lauren (Avi) Azuolay, Larchmont New York; Abbie (Michael) Rihm, San Franciso CA, and Amy Endres, Chicago IL; Lariza (Andrew) Carlson, Minneapolis MN, and Carlos (Shawn) Azuna, Albuquerque NM; Kelli Baker and Nicholas Baker, both serving in U.S. Navy in San Diego CA. Great grandchildren are Matrim and Jacob Anderson of Waukesha WI. Step-great-grandchildren are Danielle, Naomi, and Gabriella Azuolay of Larchmont NY; Mathew and Nathalie Brady of Mohegan Lake NY; Lesa Carlson, Minneapolis MN; and Kathryn Baker, San Diego CA. At age 60, Bob discovered his biological family, learning that his mother, Gladys Willsey of Rockford, IL, had died at his birth. His surviving cousins include Charlotte Willsey, Lester "Bud" (Lu) Willsey and Jack (Nancy) Shugart, all of Rockford, IL, and Alice Baker, of Tennessee. Bob is predeceased by his adoptive parents, Albin and Hulda Anderson, daughter-in-law Valerie (Philip) Anderson, and cousin Robert Shugart of Michigan. Funeral services will be held in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 South 7th St., Oregon at 11:00am Tuesday April 27 preceded by visitation beginning at 10:00am. Rev. Richard Kramer of St. Mary Catholic Church, Oregon will officiate. Burial with military honors in Riverview Cemetery, Oregon. Memorials may be made to Rock River Senior Center, Oregon or Oregon VFW.
