Oregon - Richard E. " Dick" Geiken, a lifelong Oregon resident peacefully passed away at the Serenity Home in Oregon on June 25, 2010 after living with Blood cancer for two years. He was born Feb. 11, 1932 in Oregon the son of Hiram and Frances (Cox) Geiken and brother to Marlene. Richard was a graduate of Oregon High School. He married Marilyn Boyden on Mar. 29, 1986 in Oregon and is a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Richard worked at Conover Piano Factory and delivered heating and fuel oil in the Oregon area before becoming owner of Oregon Home Auto Appliance and Hardware Store until 1986. He retired in 2009 after 35 years with Oregon School District ensuring safe transportation of Oregon community children to and from school. A supporter of Oregon School sports programs he especially enjoyed driving the teams to out of town events and rarely missed a home game. Richard was a past member of the Oregon Golf Club, Oregon JayCees, past volunteer with Oregon Ambulance Service and a lifetime volunteer blood donor. He enjoyed league bowling, golf, and casino trips. A fan of all sports, especially the Chicago Cubs, Bears and Bulls, two televisions were needed side by side in his home to ensure he wouldn't miss a play. Richard is survived by his wife, Marilyn, Two daughters, Terry Nolan of Rockford, Kim (Winston Hines) Kruse of Davis Jct., two step-daughters, Peggie Trampel and Bonnie Toms, both of Oregon; 5 step-grandchildren, Robert Geiken, Tyrus, Mia, and Lena Trampel and Gavin Speers; Mother-in-law Helen Boyden of Oregon; Brother-in-law Bill Sisler of Ohio, IL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Marlene Sisler. Funeral services will be 11:30 am, Wed., June 30th at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 764 N. Stillman Road, Oregon, IL. with the Rev. Frank Lay officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service at the church from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Interment will be in the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are for the Ogle County Hospice Assoc. 1658 South IL. Rt 2 Oregon, Il. or the Village of Progress, Box 418, Oregon, IL. A special thank-you to Ogle County Hospice Assoc., Rev. Frank E. Lay, Dr. Ajaz M. Khan and the nurses at OSF St. Anthony Medical center for Cancer Care. Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home in Oregon is assisting the family with arrangements.
