Myra Pech Bettner

Myra Pech Bettner, 94, died Monday Jan. 5, 2009 in her home. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 19, 1914, the daughter of John & Louise Meyer Pech. She was raised and educated in Chicago and in 1937 received a J.D. Degree from De Paul University Law School. She married Wayne Raymond Bettner of Paw Paw, Illinois in 1938. In 1945 they settled in their farm, west of Oregon, and became active in the community. Their social life included the 1st Presbyterian Church where Myra taught Sunday school, summer bible school, and served in various committees. She was a 25 year member of the Order of Eastern Star and a Juvenile Matron of Blackhawk Grange. Her involvement with children inspired her interest in teaching and as a result she became a graduate-at-large at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. Myra received her teacher's certification in elementary education by the state and taught 1st grade at Nash Elementary School in Oregon from 1964 to 1974. Myra was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Jerry Pech of Mokena, Illinois and her husband in April, 1964. Survivors include a sister, Hannah Elk of Los Gatos, California; three children, Louise Bettner ( Larry) Kimble of Davis, California, Jan Hannah Bettner, Madison, Wisconsin, & Allen W.(Ceil) Bettner , Los Gatos, California; three grandchildren, Justin and Brittany Meghan of Los Gatos and Joshua Bettner, Madison, Wisconsin. A memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Myra will be held at the 1st Presbyterian Church, Oregon on Friday January 9th, 2009 at 2:00 PM. Relatives and friends in the community are invited. Burial will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 10th at Melugen Grove Cemetery near Paw Paw. Memorial donations will go to 1st Presbyterian Church and Village of Progress, Oregon.
