Marjorie Rose Cortright, age 87, of Albion died Tuesday morning, June 24, 2014 at the Jackson Hospice and Palliative Care in Jackson, Michigan.
Marjorie was born on November 14, 1926 in Kalamazoo to Frances Joseph and Gladys E. (Baker) Blair. She had been a resident of Kalamazoo, Springport and Battle Creek and had lived with her daughter for the last sixteen years in the Duck Lake area.
Marjorie held a very strong work ethic and loved working. She had worked for many years at the Corning Glass Plant in Albion and then for Progress Dynamics in Marshall. Another endeavor that Marjorie enjoyed was gardening. She had many large and well kept vegetable gardens. She would often spend many long hours working in her gardens working on her hands and knees. No weed was safe from her. When the fruits of her labors were harvested, she spent many long hours in her kitchen canning and freezing.
She was also a very artistic person and enjoyed painting. Marjorie created many grand cakes for weddings, birthdays and other special occasions. Her family remembers her as a very loving and caring person that was always willing to help anyone in need. She was blessed with a very giving nature. Her large and bright smile will be greatly missed. Marjorie was an avid Detroit Tiger Fan and would never miss a game on the television or radio.
She is survived by children Jill Cortright of Springport, Daniel (Jean) Cortright of Albion, Alan Cortright of Salt Lake City, UT and Debra (Gregg) Lockwood of Albion; 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; a twin brother, Malcolm Blair of Utah; a sister, Lorraine Teachout of Coldwater; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Cortright; a sister, Marion Adler; and brothers, Robert Blair, Richard Blair and George Blair.
The family will receive friends on Thursday at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Family Homes, 723 Old US 27 North, Marshall from 2 PM and 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM.
