Lawrence "Larry" G. Schermerhorn, 51, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016, in his home. Lawrence was born January 31, 1965 in Rochelle, IL to Thomas D. and Judith A.(Wood) Schermerhorn. He is preceded in death by his father.
Lawrence was a hard worker and loved to learn, therefore becoming proficient at many trades including: plastering, construction, woodworking, welding and plumbing. Working on cars, fishing, animals, nature and reading his Bible were a few of the things he loved, but even more importantly was the love he had for his boys and family. Lawrence had a great sense of humor and a gift for making others smile.
Lawrence is survived by his mother, Judy of Rochelle; two sisters: Nancy (Paul) Davis and Janet (Randy Roberts) Harvey both of Rochelle; two half brothers: Thomas Schermerhorn, Jr. and Theodore Schermerhorn; a half sister, Cindy (Thomas) Moffitt; three children: Nathan, Zachary and Nicholas and dear friends: Fred, Karen and Heather Ortery.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1100 Calvin Road, Rochelle with Chaplain Jay LaRette and Rev. Dr. James Tilley officiating. A visitation will be from 9:00 - 10:00 prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle. Memorials may be made to the family.
