Byron - Kerrin Henry "K.C." Coyne, age 80, died Tue., January 15, 2008 at his home in Byron surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 2, 1927 in Excelsior, Wisconsin the son to Patrick Henry and Alice Frances (Flynn) Coyne. He attended school with the class of 1945. He married Donna M. Buroker on Aug. 14, 1954 in Iowa. Kerrin worked 33 years at Elco Industries in Rockford retiring in 1988. He was a WW 2 and Korean War Veteran. He served as past Commander and held every office of the Byron American Legion Post 209 where he was a member for 38 years, and a lifetime member of the Oregon VFW post 8739 and past member of the Beloit VFW. He was on the board of People Helping People in Byron, served on the zoning board for 8 years and made all the shelving for the Byron Food Pantry. He was a member of the Mt. Morris Moose Lodge and the Disabled Veteran's Association having served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1947 and the U.S. Air Force from 1950-1953. He flew as a tail gunner in the B-29 having flown 22 combat missions. He was a member of the Air Force Gunners Association. Kerrin and Donna spent 18 winters in Arizona. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, making Joker Boards, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Rockford, and attended the First Baptist Church in Byron. He was predeceased by his parents, 2 sisters; Margie Dolan and Maxine Coyne, 1 brother Donald Coyne and 1 grandson Brian David Coyne. Survived by his wife Donna of Byron, daughter Deborah (Bill) Powless of Byron, sons; David (Nancy) Coyne of Byron and Kevin (Jody) Coyne of Cherry Valley, 8 grandchildren; Larry (Tracy) Coyne, Jennifer (Matt) Bargren, Matthew (Nicole) Coyne, Julie Smith (Paul Fleetwood), Jason (Melissa) Coyne, Jillian Powless (Sean Grennan), Korey and Kasey Coyne, 2 step grandchildren; Amy Pernek and Brent Wright (Michelle Wrasse), 11 Great Grandchildren. Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Sat., Jan. 19, 2008 at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant St. Byron, IL with the Pastor Kris Peele of the Community of Christ Church in Rockford and the Pastor Randy Snider pastor of the First Baptist Church in Byron co-officiating. Burial will be in the Byron Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Friday evening and 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. A memorial fund is established in his name.
