Jon Groharing, 69, of Oregon died Saturday January 16, 2010 in the Ogle County Hospice Serenity Home, Oregon. He was born Nov. 28, 1940 in Sterling, IL, the son of Glen & Leona Nelson Groharing. He graduated from Morrison High School and attended Iowa State College. He married Judy Aggen in Morrison on Sept. 7, 1963. Jon worked for Groharing Mason Contractors for 35 years. He was then a Business Representative for O.P. & C.M.I.A. Local #11 for 5 years, retiring in 2001. He continued to hold membership in his Union and, at his death, was a 45 year member. Jon served in the Illinois National Guard from Dec. 14, 1965 to Jan. 3, 1971. He was a Morrison Volunteer Fireman for 38 years as well as Fire Chief for a number of those years. Jon was an active member of the Tri-County Gun Club and a proud member of the National Rifle Association. He attended First Presbyterian Church in Oregon and enjoyed traveling to many places with his wife. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Judy; daughter, Stephanie Groharing and her spouse Christopher "Kip" Bohn, and grandson, Grant Christopher Bohn, all of Chicago; and brother, Kim Groharing and his wife Bonnie of Rock Falls. Memorial services will be held Saturday January 23, 2010 at 11:00 AM, preceded by visitation beginning at 10:00 AM, in First Presbyterian Church, 200 S. 5th St., Oregon with Rev. Paul Park officiating. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
