JOHN V. EHMEN, 87 OREGON - John V. Ehmen, 87, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at the Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon. He was born Jan. 11, 1925, in rural Stillman Valley; the son of Amos F. and Grace (Schier) Ehmen. He attended Crowell School and Stillman Valley High School. John married Helen M. Sherfield on June 15, 1949, in Oregon. He served his country in the 284th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II in the European Theater of Operations for 21/2 years. John was a mechanic and service station owner in Byron for 14 years. With his wife, Helen, he farmed in rural Oregon for many years. He worked in the electrical field for 20 years out of IBEW Local 196 and Local 364, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Oregon. Survived by wife, Helen of Oregon; son, John (Della) Ehmen Jr., of Byron; daughter, Linda Summers (Brian Nelson) of Rochelle; brother, William Ehmen of Sterling; grandchildren, Todd Aschenbrenner and Rhonda (Tim) King, both of Byron and Renee (Brian) Foss of Oregon; great- grandchildren, Hannah, Brandt, Jenna and Kyle; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; sisters, Jennie Wilke and Hattie Johnson; brother, Henry Ehmen; infant sister; and infant brother. A special thank you to Serenity Hospice and Home for all the loving care John received during his time there. Service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Ebenezer Reformed Church, near Oregon, with visitation from 12:30 p.m. to time of service; the Rev. Brion Brooks, pastor of the church will officiate.
