BYRON-JOHN H. HALFMAN, 82, of Byron, died Wed. April 11, 2007 in Neighbors Nursing Home. He was born June 19, 1924 in Carroll County, IL the son of John H. & Florence Darr Halfman, Sr. He married Ruth Elizabeth Goldring on Jan. 11, 1947; she died in 1970. He then married Joyce Donaldson on Feb. 5, 1972; she died in 2001. He was a warehouse manager for Moorman Feeds, was a WW II Veteran, and a member of the Byron American Legion Post #209. He was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Byron. John was an avid White Sox Fan and loved his family and his country. He is survived by his daughters, Sheryl (William) Lawrence of Chetek, WI, Teri LaSala of Rockford, Kathleen (Gale) Frank of Forreston, Rosemary (Robert) Wirth of Elgin, SC, and Anita (Rick) Fritz of Monroe Center; sons, Richard Halfman of Forreston and Kevan (Sharon) Halfman of Rockford; 22 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren; sisters, Mary E. Hall of Princeton, IL and Frances Burkholder of Lanark; brother, Eugene (Phyllis) Halfman of Mt. Carroll; and special friends, Ted. & Sue Elliott of Byron. He was also preceded in death by his parents, son, John M. Halfman, and brothers, Lawrence & William Halfman. Christian Funeral Mass will be held Sat. April 14, 2007 at 10:00 AM in St. Mary Catholic Church, Byron with Rev. Timothy Doherty celebrating. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rockford. Visitation will be held Friday from 6:00-8:00 PM, with a prayer service at 8:00 PM, in the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant St., Byron. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
