Jackson Decker, of Oregon, died Sunday Feb. 17, 2008 in Rockford Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 23, 1925 in Evanston, IL the son of Roy H. & Ruth Jackson Decker. He married Janice Bjelland on April 9, 1950. He was in the Class of 1942 of Oregon High School and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1950 with a B. S. Civil Engineering degree. He was a member of Chi Epsilon, Civil Engineering Honor Society. He was a Licensed Professional Engineer and worked for 34 years, retiring in Jan. 1988, at E. D. Etnyre & Co., in the later years as Chief Product Engineer and Engineering Manager. He served in the European Theatre as an artillery forward observer in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Jack was a member of the American Legion , V.F.W., and was an original member of St. Bride's Episcopal Church in Oregon . He is survived by his wife, Janice Bjelland Decker; sons, Marc (Mary) Decker of Naperville, IL and Eric (Anne) Decker of Berkhamsted, England; grandchildren, Jenna (Kevin) Kelly of Chicago, Jordan Decker of Chicago, and Grace Decker of Berkhamsted, England; and brother, James Decker of Salt Lake City, UT. Funeral services will be held Thursday Feb. 21, 2008 at 2:00 PM in St. Bride's Episcopal Church, Oregon with Father Thomas Lamb, Vicar, officiating. Burial will be in St. Bride's Churchyard. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the church from 1:00 PM until time of service. Memorials may be directed to St. Bride's Church.
