Florence Eleanor Baker, Age 79 passed away Dec. 1, 2006 at home in Rochelle, IL of ovarian cancer. She was born August 11, 1927 on the Davey family farm North of Creston, IL the daughter of Wm. Clyde and Nellie (Newcomer) Davey. She married Frederick E.(Buck) Baker on September 6, 1947. They started building their own home together in 1950 under the direct supervision of Fred Baker Sr., contractor and father of Buck. Florence and Fred have celebrated 59 years of marriage. She was a stay-at-home mother until her children had all left home. At that time she went to work at her husband's place of business, Hub Engravers, Inc. In Rochelle as the office secretary. In earlier times she worked at the Creston telephone Co., Conour's Royal Blue Grocery Store in Creston and Northern Illinois corporation in DeKalb.

Florence graduated form R.T.H.S. in 1945.

Mrs. Baker was a member of the Rochelle United Methodist Church since Dec. 1956 serving as team leader and chairman of the Ruth Circle for a number of years. She was also a member of the Rochelle Country Club for 42 years and for the last several yours was publicity chairman and kept the scrap books. In 1981 she earned the title of Ladies Club champion. Florence was also a 50 year member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law Harold Berg and a nephew, John Berg both of Rockford, IL. She was also preceded in death by a nephew from Malta, IL, Barry Davey.

Florence is survived by her husband, Fred, a son David (Jennifer Gruben) Baker of Southlake, TX;, and three daughters, Barbara Manning of Rochelle, Brenda (David) Jones of Creston, and Mary (Jeffrey) Butler of Monticello, IL. 13 Grandchildren including Barrett, Andrea, Cassidy and Grant Manning and Rhonda (Jason) Sullivan, David, Alisha and Jessica Jones, Brad and Keith Butler, Amy, Lisa and Krista Baker, and 10 Great Grandchildren Tyler Ewald, Brandon and Brittni Manning, Seth Leggio, Beau, Chayce, Gage, Gwen and Krew Sullivan, and Hayleigh Jones. One sister Vergene Berg of Cherry Valley, IL and 3 brothers Norman (Sharon) Davey of Sumner, WA and Clyde N. Davey of rural Malta and Willard (Dorothy) Davey of Creston, IL

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at the Rochelle United Methodist Church with Rev. Jon Hutchison officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 PM on Monday, December 4, 2006 at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th St. Rochelle.

Memorials to Rochelle United Methodist Church and V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 3878 Rochelle, IL Burial will be in Lawnridge Cemetery.
