E. Marie Hardesty Black

E. Marie Black, 72, of Oregon, died Saturday March 12, 2011 in her home. She was born May 6, 1938 in Pine Rock Twp., Ashton, IL the daughter of Paul & Ethel Sanford Hardesty. She graduated salutatorian of the class of 1956 at Oregon High School. Marie married Donald Black in Oregon on Sept. 30, 1956; he died in 1976. She was a member of the Ogle County Historical Society, worked as a waitress at several area restaurants, including the Oregon VFW, and was a bookkeeper at several businesses in the Oregon area. Spending time with family was very important to Marie. Survivors include her daughter, Laury (Bob) Edlund of Ashton; son, Stanwood (Tricia) Black of Mt. Morris; grandchildren, Richard (Bekka Gall) Edlund of Rochelle, Anthony (Erica) Edlund of Nachusa, Tyler Black and Arika Black of Mt. Morris; great grandchild, Cheyanne Edlund; "other" daughter, Jacque (Ralph) Plocker of Grand Detour ; sisters, Pauline Elvin of Rockford and Marilyn (Jon) Schwartz of Polo; several nieces and nephews; and special cousin, Dwight Hedrick of Bloomington. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and nephew, David Elvin. Funeral services will be held Wednesday March 16, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. 7th St., Oregon with Rev. Gregg Downs, officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 PM. Burial will be in Washington Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Ogle County Historical Society or Ogle County Hospice.
