Dorothy Bernice Harwig Haug, 95, known for her gentleness, kindness, loving and warm hands that held us in her arms, died Friday August 14, 2009 in Oregon Health Care Center, Oregon, IL. We will miss her. She was born December 13, 1913, in her parents' modest Chicago, Il home, the second daughter of Nora Leifheit Harwig and Lewis Howard Harwig. Dorothy graduated Proviso East High School, 1933. Accomplished with bookkeeping, Dorothy's earliest job was at Fullerton as assistant cashier; until a promotion placed her at Beahm, a wholesale meat packing company. Dorothy married Edwin Arthur Haug at City Hall, Chicago, Oct 29, 1938 performed by Judge Joseph Daly. The young couple lived in several Chicago suburbs until their final move to a small home north of Wheaton. Her children were the center of her life, making the dinnertable time the highlight of every day. Her hobbies included reading countless library books, sewing, and walking through parks, especially the Lincoln Marsh near their Nepil Ave. home. Although Dorothy lived a quiet life, her children enriched her days with garish varieties of artwork, exploding science experiments and humorous sibling antics. The family bonded through summer vacation trips to Hurley's Lodge, Manaste River, Upper Pennisula, Michigan. Dorothy packed many a luscious picnic lunch to parks at Herricks Lake, Warrenville. 1960's Dorothy drove Edwin to train for his Chicago employment at Dana Corporation, followed by driving her sons to classes at North Central College in Naperville. Each of Dorothy's children adored her, through writing, telephoning and visiting frequently. Dorothy loved to have her family around her playing table games, relishing those excellent delicious home baked cookies, generous and gracious dinners. Her favorite dessert was an ice cream cake and she always asked Edwin for a second helping on her waffle ice cream cone. Dorothy most especially enjoyed her daughter, Marilyn, spending her remaining years following Edwin's passing in Colorado. Those were such precious personal memories as she met many neighborhood women who enjoyed her companionship, visiting her family in Colorado, and sharing the days at zoos and mountain excursions. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edwin, her sisters, Evelyn and Edna, and brother, Ralph. Dorothy is deeply grieved by her daughter, Marilyn Weldon of Lafayette, Colorado; sons, Kenneth (MaryAnn) of Denver, Colorado, Leonard (Carole) of Princeton, Massachusetts, & Dennis (Pamela) of Mt.
