Stillman Valley - Doris M. Burd, age 93, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009 at the Neighbors Nursing Home in Byron. She was born Aug. 19, 1916 in Rockford the daughter to Francis "Frank" and Jessie E. (Peckham) McGraw. She graduated from Rockford Central High School in 1934. She married Harry E. Burd on June 20, 1936 at the Sinnissippi Gardens in Rockford. Doris worked for J.L. Clark both in Stillman Valley and Rockford, she later worked for Jefco Products in Rockford Prior to her retirement. Doris attended the Congregational Christian Church in Stillman Valley, She loved to dance, and play cards, bingo, and dominos at the community room with her friends. She was a member of the Ogle County Senior Citizens Center. Doris was predeceased by her husband Harry, daughter Frances "Fran" Geiger, her son-in-law Duane Geiger, granddaughter Juli Mae Geiger, and her sister Dorothy Belle McGraw. Survived by 4 daughters; Sharon (Larry) Hildebrand, Barb (Gary) Sasse all of Stillman Valley, and Karen (Gene) Schabacker and Deb (Jeff) Johnson all of Byron., 13 grandchildren; Kristi Gile, Kevin Hildebrand, Todd (Nancy) Schabacker, Jeff (Cheri) Schabacker, Cory Schabacker, Denise Sasse, Brad (Deb) Sasse, Bryan (Sarah) Johnson, Brett (Angie) Johnson, Brock Johnson, Jodi Rasmus, Jill (Ray) Fritz, and Jeani Kann, 22 Great grandchildren, Sister-in-law Florence Herbert, and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the Neighbors Nursing Home for their special care. Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Thur., Oct. 1, 2009 at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 136 W. Roosevelt rd. in Stillman Valley with the Rev. Chris Brauns pastor of the Congregational Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Stillman Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm, Wed. evening at the funeral Home. A memorial fund is established in her name.
