David Paul "Pete" Barnard, age 79, died Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was born April 15, 1934 at Wayne County, Illinois the son of Ralph and Ruth (Peddicord) Barnard.

Pete has been a Barton County resident since 1963 coming from Oklahoma, and served his country in the United States Army where he was stationed in Panama. He worked for over forty years in the oil industry until his retirement. Pete served on the city council in Hoisington and Susank, and drove the trolley in Hoisington. He attended the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening, picking up cars for local auto dealers, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On October 13, 1956 he married Joyce Hosselton at Johnsonville, Illinois.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Barnard of the home in Hoisington; two sons: Bryan Barnard and wife Diana of Pratt, Kansas, and Bradley Barnard and wife Laura of Hoisington; two daughters: Kim Landers and husband Eric of Hoisington, and Kara Gale and husband Cory of Winfield, Kansas; two brothers: Bob Barnard of Cisne, Illinois, and Dale Barnard and wife Kay of Fairfield, Illinois; one sister: Sharon Zimmerman and husband Richard of DuQuoin, Illinois; eleven grandchildren: Erika Redetzke, Kerri Landers, Brance Barnard and wife Shayla, Blaine Barnard, Corey Barnard, Austin Barnard, Bailey Barnard, Derek Barnard, Nathaniel Gale, Brett Barnard, and Aleigha Gale; nine great-grandchildren: Tausha, Aiden, Eastin, Xavier, Taylor, and Kylee Redetzke, Maddie, and Jaylin Kolas, and Branson Barnard.

He was preceded in death by one son: Rickey David Barnard, and his parents.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Hoisington with Pastor Kris Brinlee officiating. There will be no public visitation as cremation has taken place.
