In 1805, owing to the infirmities of age, Rev. Mr. Mellen terminated his ministry, and moved to Reading, where he closed his long and useful life July 4th, 1807, at the age of 85.
His life was an eventful one. He was born in Hopkinton, March I4th, 1722, and was graduated at Harvard College in 1741, teaching school the same year for '85, in Sudbury. He was ordained the first pastor of the church in Sterling, Dec. 19th, 1744, where he continued probably at the head of the clergy of Worcester County until Nov. I4th, 1774. Read More
