William Wallace Bennett

The Reverend William Wallace Bennett, D.D. was born in Richmond, Virginia, February 24, 1821, and reared under the influence of Methodist teaching and preaching of the old school. He was converted in Portsmouth, Va., in 1839, was received on trial in the Virginia Conference in November 1842, and served in various circuits throughout Virginia, 1843-49. He studied at the University of Virginia and was graduated from several schools in 1850. That same year he was assigned as the first preacher in charge of the newly formed Southern Church in Washington City.
