Second Dead OF Pneumonia
James Albert Venable, 25, 2405 Pine became the second Abilenian to die of pneumonia Tuesday. His death at 11:10 pm in Hendrick Memorial Hospital followed that of John Dean Walker, 834 Ross by about three hours.
Venable had been ill of pneumonia for only four days. He was admitted to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
Born Nov 20 1916, at Big Spring, Venable had lived in Abilene the past five years. He was employed at the Green Frog Café.
Surviving are his wife, two sons, James C and Marshall L; his mother, Mrs H A Ripley of Abilene; one-half brother, Bill Ripley of Abilene; and one sister, Mrs ER Mayfield.
Funeral will be held at Laughter’s Chapel at 4:30 pm Thursday with the Rev Charles Griffith, Olton Baptist pastor, officiating. Burial will be in a local cemetery.- Abilene Reporter 21 Jan 1942

Clyde- Mrs Kenneth (Mary) Cowan, 63, of Clyde, died at 2 pm Wednesday at West Texas Medical Center in Abilene after an apparent heart attack. Services will be at 10 am Saturday at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel in Clyde.
Clarence Snodgrass of Abilene will officiate. Burial will be in Clyde Cemetery.
Born April 19, 1914, in Proctor, she married Kenneth D Cowan March 14, 1966, in Proctor. She moved to Abilene in 1934 and lived there until 1958. She lived in Fort Worth until 1972, when she moved to Clyde. She had worked for the Abilene Independent School District food service. She was also assistant manager of the Hardin-Simmons University cafeteria. Later she owned and managed a hotel in Fort Worth. She was a Methodist.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, James Charles Venable of Canyon Lake and Marshall Lee Venable of Portland; two daughters, Janette Minatra of Clyde and Janice Jones of Springfield, Mo; two brothers, James Shelton of Brownwood and Jason Shelton of Copperas Cove; a half-sister, Iva Lee Layne of Giddings; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.- Abilene Reporter News Friday Aug 5, 1977
