Mrs Cora Elizabeth Brown, 93, Harrisonville, died March 13 at the Holiday Manor Nursing Home in Osawatomie, Kansas.
Mrs Brown was born June 12, 1884, at the farm home a mile and a half southeast of West Line where her parents, Noah and Jane Elizabeth (Vanaman) started their married life on March 6, 1873. She was the fifth of seven daughters.
She married James Wilson Brown on Jan 31, 1906, at her parents’ home. The Rev Walter Davenport performed the ceremony. The Browns established their home south of West Line. Mr Brown died Nov 8, 1947. Also preceding Mrs Brown in death was a stillborn son on May 24, 1911, and five sisters, Luella in 1874 at age of 10 months, Mrs Ollie Rogers in 1934, Mrs Ida Duncan in 1962, Mrs Nellie Davenport in 1965 and Mrs Pauline Wilcox in July of 1977.
At an early age, Mrs Brown united with the West Line Baptist Church. After services ceased there she became a member of West Line Christian Church. At one time she was superintendent of the Sunday school there.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs James B (Ruby) Stark of Freeman; a sister, Mrs Neva Davenport of Harrisonville; a grandson Donald R Bowes of Harrisonville; four great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held March 16 at the West Line Christian Church with the Rev Joe Brewster, Jr, officiating. Pallbearers were Edward L Davenport, David Davenport, Leroy Crook, Larry Duncan, John Goddard. Burial was in the cemetery at Louisburg, Kansas.
