Vivian was living in the Bay Area, and still a Salvation Army officer when she met Mr. Leonard. Evidence for this is in a newspaper announcement (the original of which I cannot read currently since I don't have a newspaper subscription.)  The announcement, with the city not named for either, said his address was at the Precidio. The Precidio is a military installation in San Francisco.

Vivian was in the Bay Area when, I believe, she met a man who was stationed at the Precido military base.  She likely left her officership at that time, when she married him. The marriage did not last, as she was listed as a divorcee when she married Glenn Stark.  Note that she was living as "Vivien Leonard, with her parents in 1930, no occupation listed. She was also listed as married, though Mr. Leonard was not in evidence. She had been promoted to Salvation Army Captain in 1925.

It is sad to see, though, that Mr. Leonard died in 1944 in a Japanese prisoner of war camp. They say it was from pneumonia, but I don't know how this might have been verified.
