  • Obituary, : Funeral services for Edwin Alexander Conrad, 85, retired farmer, for 35 years Forsyth county surveyor, who died at his home at Vienna at 11:30 o'clock Saturday night, will be held at the home at 3 o'clock and at Bethania Moravian Church at 3:30 o'clock this afternoon.

    Bishop J. Kenneth Pfohl and Dr. Edmund Schwarze will be in charge of the services. Burial will be in the church graveyard.

    Active pallbearers will be P.N. Mock, Wesley and Marvin Beroth, Eugene and Ebb Conrad and Conrad Flynt.

    Honorary Pallbearers will be Reuben Conrad, Clinton Mock, W.A. Mickle, Alex, Victor, Elbert and Tom Beroth, E.T. Kapp, E.T. Strupe, Claude Leinbach, Newton Booze, Dick Mosley, Bolton Yarbrough, Rufus Vance, Marvin, Ernest, and Grady Conrad, George W. Flynt, Clarence and Paul Fulk, B.A. Wilson and Sol Stimpson.

    Mr. Conrad was a member of one of the oldest and best-known families in Forsyth county. He was born February 12, 1855, a son of Timothy and Mary Holder Conrad. He spent his entire life in Forsyth county and was county surveyor for more than a third of a century and was also a magistrate for several years, his principal occupation was farming.

    Mr. Conrad was a lifelong member of Bethania Moravian Church, although extending his religious activities wherever he could be of service. For a number of years he taught a Sunday school class at Brookstown Methodist Church and at another time at Olivet Moravian Church. He was superintendent of the Sunday school at Olivet for a time an for a time was president of the township Sunday school association.

    Mr. Conrad was married to Miss Laura Transou January 21, 1877. She dies October 24, 1939.

    Surviving are eight sons, William Walter, Luther A., Edwin H. and Howard C. Conrad, all of Winston-Salem; Everette C. Conrad of Spencer; Omer C. Conrad of Lewisville; Harold L. Conrad of Forsyth county, and Fred A. Conrad of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; three daughters, Mrs. L.A. Brinkley of Washington D.C., Mrs. W.C. Needham and Mrs. K.W. Pfaff of Pfafftown; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
