  • Obituary, : "'Funeral Services Held Today For Robert B. (Bunk) Wilburn '
    Funeral services were held this afternoon at four o'clock for Robert B. Wilburn, local insurance agent, from the First Methodist Church with the Rev. A. L. Meadows officiating. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery Cemetery with Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Wilburn died Sunday morning at the Greenwood Leflore Hospital following a short illness. He was 72. He was born in Pickens, Mississippi and was a former resident of Lexington before moving to Greenwood in 1916. He was for many years identified with New York Life Insurance and was one of the top producers for that company. In 1950 he formed a partnership with his wife and they entered the general insurance business. He was a graduate of Franklin Battle Ground Academy, Franklin, Tenn, a graduate of Poughkeepsie Business College in New York and attended the University of Mississippi. Several years ago he was presented a 50 year membership pin to Phi Delta Theta fraternity at Ole Miss. He was a star baseball player while at Ole Miss. Mr. Wilburn was a veteran of World War I, member of the First Methodist Church, Elks Club and the Greenwood Country Country Club.

    He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Virginia Brister Wilburn of Greenwood. Pallbearers were R. P. Parish, Jr., Roy A. Meeks, Kimbrough McGeoy, Pickens McGeoy, D. K. Brewer, J. E. Coleman, C Dr. J. C. Adams, Dan Reynolds, E. W. Mauney of Doraville, Georgia and Charles Hony.

    Honorary pallbearers were F. H. Quekemyer, C. F. Waits, Dr. L. B. Otken, Dr. Ira Bright, Jess Hugh Stigler, J. V. Corbin, Maynard Fountain, Earl Kinnebrew, Will Reed McBride, Sam Montgomery, Ben K. Pearce and W. F. Arnold."

  • Obituary, 17 JAN 1853: "Funeral Rites For Mrs. Brister'
    Mrs. Daisy McGlathery Brister, one of Greenwood's beloved gentlewomen, died at her home, 217 West Church Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock.

    Services will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at the First Methodist Church with the Rev. N. J. Golding officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery with Wilson and Knight in charge.

    Mrs. Brister was one of the city's oldest residents, having lived here since 1880. She was the widow of Dr. S. L. Brister. She was a charter member of the Greenwood Garden Club, as well as a member of the Women's Club and the U. D. C. She was a Methodist. Mrs. Brister was born in Alcorn county.

    She leaves a son, Dr. Sam L. Brister, Jr., two daughters, Mrs. R. H. Wilson and Mrs. R. B. Wilburn.

    The family requests no flowers.

    Pallbearers will be: C. J. Stratton, Terrell Wells, Nathan Fountain, Earl Kinnebrew, W. L. Craig, Dr. Henry Kennedy, George C Roberts and Ben Pearce."

    GREENWOOD, [MS], Oct. 10. Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth. Brown McGIathery, who died at her home here Monday night, were held this afternoon from the family residence with interment in the Greenwood Cemetery. Rites were conducted by the Rev. J. M. Bradley, pastor of the Methodist church. Mrs. McGIathery was a pioneer citizens of Greenwood, and until failing health several years ago, active in the work of the Methodist church of which she was a member. She was a member also of the Varina Jefferson Davis Chapter U. D. C, the Kings Daughters and Sons Circle, and the Red Cross. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. S. L. Blister Blister and Miss Pattie McGlathery: and three grandchildren, Dr. S. L. Brister, Mrs. R. B. Wilburn and Mrs. R. H. Wilson and one great grandchild, Margaret Brister."
