COLUMBIA - Thomas Winfield Joyce, 82, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008 at home. He was born March 20, 1926 in Winston-Salem, N.C. to Virgil Winfield Joyce and Sarah Wagoner Joyce. A graduate of Reynolds High School, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. In 1954, he graduated with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University where he played right guard in N.C. State's first football bowl game in the 1947 Gator Bowl. A licensed professional engineer, he owned and operated Joyce Engineering and Mapping Co., Inc. in Winston-Salem.
