Sir John James Hugh Henry Stewart-Murray, 7th Duke of Atholl was born on 6 August 1840.1 He was the son of Sir George Augustus Frederick John Murray, 6th Duke of Atholl and Anne Home-Drummond.1 He was baptised on 12 November 1840 at Blair Castle, Blair Atholl, Perthshire, Scotland.1 He married Louisa Moncreiffe, daughter of Sir Thomas Moncreiffe of that Ilk, 7th Bt. and Lady Louisa Hay-Drummond, on 29 October 1863 at Moncreiffe House.2 He died on 20 January 1917 at age 76 at Blair Castle, Blair Atholl, Perthshire, Scotland.3 He was buried on 23 January 1917.3 Sir John James Hugh Henry Stewart-Murray, 7th Duke of Atholl was baptised with the name of John James Hugh Henry Murray.1 He was educated between 1853 and 1856 at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1859 in the service of the Scots Fusilier Guards.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1864.1 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Lord Glenlyon, of Glenlyon, co.
