Sir George Augustus Frederick John Murray, 6th Duke of Atholl was born on 20 September 1814 at Great Cumberland Place, Marylebone, London, England.2 He was the son of Lt.-Gen. Sir James Murray, 1st Lord Glenlyon and Lady Emily Frances Percy.1 He married Anne Home-Drummond, daughter of Henry Home-Drummond and Christian Moray, on 29 October 1839 at Blair Drummond, Perthshire, Scotland.2 He died on 16 January 1864 at age 49 at Blair Castle, from cancer in the neck.2 He was buried on 25 January 1864 at Church of Blair.2 Sir George Augustus Frederick John Murray, 6th Duke of Atholl gained the rank of officer in 1834 in the service of the 2nd Dragoon Guards.2 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Lord Glenlyon, of Glenlyon, co.
