Cause: acute adema of the lungs
James Buchanan Sutton passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs Florence Stout, 6107 Harrison, Kansas City, Mo, Monday evening, March 12, 1945, at 9:25 o’clock. At the time of his death he had reached the advanced age of 88 years and 7 days.
He was born in Illinois, March 5, 1857, in a country home. At the age of 25 he came to Missouri locating on a farm near Freeman. Sixty years of his life have been spent in and near Freeman. During the past three years he has made his home with his daughters in Kansas City.
In 1878 he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Isabelle Duncan, who became the mother of his 13 children. She departed this life August 22, 1930.
Nine of his children are living, five sons and four daughters. They are: Frank Sutton, Kenny Heights, Kans; Walter Sutton, Osawatomie, Kans; Carl Sutton, Texarkana, Ark; Earl Sutton, Lawndale, Calif; Harry Sutton, Freeman, Mo; Mrs Bessie Urton, of Grandview, Mo; Mrs Katie Solberg, Mrs Lewis King and Mrs Florence Stout, of Kansas City. Fiftyseven grandchildren survive, 94 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. More distant relatives are left behind. One son, Ray Sutton, and three daughters, Mrs Dolly Peterson, Mrs Elsie Clary and Mrs Sophia Hook, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at the Freeman Baptist Church on Wednesday afternoon, March 14, at 2:30 o’clock, being in charge of the Rev George C Monroe of Harrisonville. Misses Hazel Davis, Mabel Holmberg and Ruby Lee Pretttyman sang “The Old Rugged Cross,” “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder,” “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere,” with Mrs J W Suddarth at the piano. The casketbeareres were Charles Sutton, Jimmie Sutton, Emmett Hook, Raymond Hook, Johnnie Clary and Cornelius Clary. Burial was in the Freeman Cemetery.

Mrs Sarah Isabella Sutton, almost 71 years old, died Friday, August 22, 1930, in Bell Memorial Hospital in Kansas City, Kans, where she had been taken from her home near Beagle, Kans.
Mrs Sutton was born in Coshocton County, Ohio, September 7, 1859, and moved with her parents to Freeman, Mo, when she was seven years old, making their home on the old home place southwest of Freeman. When she was about seventeen years old, she was converted and joined the Baptist Church, and in 1879 she was united in marriage with James Sutton.
Mr and Mrs Sutton became the parents of thirteen children, of whom four have passed away, namely, Dolly, Elsie, Sophie and Ray. With the husband and father there are surviving these children; Walter and Harry of Beagle, Kans; Frank, Earl, Mrs Florence Stout of Kansas City; Mrs Kate Prater of Overland Park, Kans; Mrs Bessie Urton and Mrs Tennie King of Grandview, Mo; Carl of Prescott, Kans, and several grand children. There are also five brothers-Grant, Clint, Charley, John and George Duncan, besides a host of friends to mourn their loss.
Funeral services were held in the Freeman, Mo, Baptist Church, Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, being in charge of the Rev E W Chewning of Independence, Mo, and formerly of Harrisonville. Burial was in the Freeman Cemetery.
