Sara Ellen Joyce Munden (Sally), wife of Thomas Carlton Munden, Sr., passed away on March 17, 2016.
Mrs. Munden was born March 5, 1924 in Winston-Salem to the late David Coy Joyce and Lois Carter Joyce (Perry). She attended Wiley School and was a 1941 graduate of Reynolds High School. She graduated valedictorian from Converse College in Spartanburg, SC and was awarded the Joseph A. Tillingham Memorial Award presented by Gamma Sigma Scholarship Society to the highest ranking senior of Arts and Sciences. She received her MA degree in French from UNC-Chapel Hill where she met her future husband, Tom Munden.
Mrs. Munden was a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church where she served several times as Circle Leader, Bible moderator, and Sunday School teacher of Class 17. She was a sustaining member of the Winston-Salem Junior League, a member of Sorosis Book Club, and a charter member of Louise Haywood Service League. She also was a volunteer for the Children?s Playroom at Baptist Hospital and was active in the Children?s Theatre, acting and working in the sound booth. Later in life, she joined the American Contract Bridge League and attained the rank of Bronze Life Master. - See more at: salemfh.com
