Obituary from Find-a-Grave:
Rev. W.J. Coberly, who was a resident of Elizabeth for more than twenty years and for 50 years was a Baptist minister, died Monday mornng at 7:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Susan Taylor of Parkersburg. Death came suddenly as Mr. Coberly had been up and around his home retiring later than usual to his bed where he passed away quietly in sleep. He had been out on Sunday and his death was ascribed to the weakness of old age.

Mr. Coberly was born in Gilmer County September 18, 1845, and would have been 87 had he lived until next September. He was a Civil War veteran serving in the Union Army under Captain Wiant formerly of Parkersburg, was engaged in scouting activities for two years. He entered the mnistry and preached in the Baptist churches of Gilmer, Calhoun, Wirt and Wood counties for fifty years being retired from active work ten years ago. The death of his wife occurred 11 years ago, also that of a daughter preceded his.

He is survived by three sons: J.S. Coberly, J.M. Coberly and J.G.B. Coberly of Parkersburg, and five daughters, Mrs. Olive Rogers and Mrs. Ella Taylor of Morgantown; Mrs. Susan Taylor at whose home he died; Mrs. Rhoda Fleming of Cairo, and Mrs. Blanche Carder of Dallison. He is also survived by three brothers: A.J. Coberly of Spencer, Nathan Coberly of Industry and J.M. Coberly of Wheeling. By 33 grandchildren and 25 great-granchildren.

He was a member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge of Grantsville for 40 years.

Funeral was held from the Taylor home Wednesday morning and a short funeral service was held at the Elizabeth Baptist Church in the afternoon with Dr. A.S. Kelley, secretary of the West Virginia Baptist Mission Board and Rev. Pinchback, both of Parkersburg, officiating.

Interment was made in the K. of P. Cemetery. The Eureka Masonic Lodge of Grantsville assisted by local Masons had charge of the funeral service at the grave.
