Nathan Lord, the son of the Hon. John and Mehitabel (Perkins) Lord, was born at South Berwick, Me, Nov. 28, 1792. He graduated at Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Me, in 1809; taught at Exeter Academy; studied divinity at Andover Theo. Seminary, MA, graduating in 1815; was ordained a colleague pastor of the Cong. Church at Amherst, May 22, 1816; dismissed Sept. 22, 1828; was inaugurated the sixth President of Dartmouth, Oct. 29, 1828, and resigned the office at the College commencement in 1863, after holding it nearly 35 years.
