Ruebin was born in Martin County, North Carolina but resided and farmed in Johnston County, North Carolina. It appears he went Johnston County, North Carolina between 1840 and 1850. He enlisted in the Confederate Army at age 52, on 31 May 1861 as a private in Company E., 24th regiment, N.C. Troops. He was discharged on 18 Jan 1862 by reason of old age, deafness, and general disability.

Gurganus], Recorded in Book K, Page 118,119,120: In the name of God, Amen I Reuben Gainus of Greene County, and State of North Carolina, being in health(?) of body, and of sound mind, and memory and understanding, praise be God for the same, do make this my last will and testament, in manner and form following:
    I give to each of my sons William Gainus + Simon Gainus, fifty cent, lawful money of the United States.
    I give to my daughter, now Penelop(sp) Faircloth, fifty cents, lawful money of the United States.
    I give to my daughter in law, Patience Gainus, wife of William Gainus, and all of he(?) lawful heirs begotten of her body, by William Gainus a certain piece of land, or parcel of lands, being in the same county and State aforesaid, lying south of Lanes branch. Known as the William Gainus lands, adjoining the lands of Jas. F. Jones Hirum(sp) Howell Sallie Ranfield, Jo(?) Fmgrin(?) + others said to contain in both pieces 69 1/2 acres more or less. also, all of personal property, of what nature, of kind soever, and wheresoever the same shall be at the time of my death.
    And I do nominate, constitute and appoint my trusty friend Patrick Lynch, sole executor of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking and making void all and every other will or wills at any time heretofore made by me, and do declare this to be my last will and testament.
    In witness whereof, I the said Reuben Gainus have hereunto set my hand this 5th day of July A.D. 1879

    Signed, declared and published by the above Reuben X Gainus named Reuben Gainus as for his last will and testament, in the presence of us, who at his request, and in his presence, have subscribed our names as
    witnesses thereto, H.H. Best, J M D Turner.

    In the Superior Court, May 16, 1884. A paper writing purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of Reubin(sp) Gainus, dec'd is exhibited for Probate in open court by Patrick Lynch the executor by the said Reuben Gainus is proven by(?) the oath and examination of H.H. Best and J.M.D. Turner the Subscribing witnesses thereto.
    It is considered and ad_______(?) the court that the said paper writing is the Last Will and Testament of the said Reuben Gainus and the same is ordered to be recorded and filed.
