Marvin Curtis "Red" Alston
M.C. "Red" Alston, 78, former mayor and city commissioner, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Darris Egger officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Born in Alba, he moved to Sweetwater in 1923.
A building contractor, he owned and operated Alston Construction Company.
He attended the University of Texas and Texas Christian University.
He was Sweetwater's outstanding citizen for 1977.
One of the founders of the Sweetwater Country Club, he served as president and director.
He was a director of Texas Bank and Trust Co. for 33 years.
A member of the Elks Lodge, he was a member of the Lions Club and a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Anderson Alston of Sweetwater; a daughter, Kay Armstrong of Broomfield, Colo.; a son, Gary Alston of Austin; three sisters, Charlesa Ruth Gordon of Abilene, Jessie Lou Guthrie of Snyder and Alvah Walker of Sweetwater; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
