James T. ?Jake? Manning, 78, of Liberty, died Aug. 18, 2005, in Baton Rouge.
Visitation is 6 to 9 tonight at Unity Presbyterian Church, Highway 569 south of Liberty, and continues from11 a.m. Saturday until services at the church at 2 p.m. The Rev. Walt Gaston will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery near Liberty. Brown Funeral Home of Gloster is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Manning was born Aug. 7, 1927, in Pride, La., to Allie and Bessie Sullivan Manning.
He was a building contractor and was a member and deacon of Unity Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Manning was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie Jones Manning; and a brother, Maurice Manning Sr.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Joseph Kelly of Bay St. Louis and Sherry and Louie Badon of Ponchatoula, La.; three grandchildren, Tammy and husband Dr. Justin Strittmatter of Panama City, Fla., Taylor Kelly of Bay St. Louis and Connie Hatfield of Ponchatoula; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Juanita and Ulysses Pinell of Baker, La., Callie and Melvin Ashford of Liberty and Marguerita Phillips of Prairieville, La.; a sister-in-law, Catherine Manning of Marietta, Ga.; and a niece, Beverly Milioto and husband Tommy of Liberty.
