  • Will, 15 JUN 1867: "Will of James Sheal of Taylor Township Lawrence County Penna. do make this my last will and testament for the disposition of all my property and estate real personal and mixed as follows, to wit.--

    I devise unto my beloved wife Mary Ann all that farm or tract of land situated in Taylor Township aforesaid, and upon which I now reside containing about twenty acres, more or less and known as the homestead. To have and to9 hold the same during her mortal life or if she wishes to sell the said land and invest the proceeds as she may deem advisable. It being my desire and will that the said Mary Ann shall have full and sole control of said land and to devise it to whomever she shall elect.

    Further I give and bequeath first to my wife Mary Ann all the personal property that I pofsefs [sic.] at the time of my death.

    2nd unto my daughter Mary Ann the sum of five Dollars

    3rs unto my daughter Margaret intermarried with James Moffatt the sum of five Dollars

    4th unto my daughter Esther the sum of five Dollars

    5th unto my Daughter Jane Ann the sum of five Dollars

    6th unto my daughter Caroline intermarried with T. K. McGlathery the sum of five dollars

    7th unto my son John Irwin the sum of five Dollars

    8th unto my Daughter Josephine Victoria the sum of five Dollars

    9th the rest and residue of my Estate real personal & mixed I give and devise to my beloved wife Mary Ann her heirs and assigns.

    Lastly, I nominate constitute and appoint by [my] beloved wife Mary Ann Sole Executrix of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof, I set my hand and seal this the first day of June AD one thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven. James Sheal

    Sign sealed and published and declared by the above named James Sheal as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesfes [sic.] thereto in the presence of the testator and of each other the day and year aforesaid.

    Be it remembered that on this 15th day of June A.D. 1867 before me Regr & c in & for said County came Wm. Newell & Abigail Mansfield subscribing witnesses to the following will & testament & that at the time of so doing he was of sound mind & memory to the best of their knowledge & belief & further that they subscribed their names to the same as witnesses at the request of said testator in his presence & in the presence of each other.

  • Will, 10 SEP 1876: Last Will & Testament of Mary Ann Sheal - Admitted to Probate & filed March 22nd 1877--

    I, Mary Ann Shields [sic.] - widow of James Shields [sic.] Dead -- of Taylor Township County of Lawrence and State of Pennsylvania do make and publish this last will and testement hereby revolving and making void all former wills by me at any time theretofore made. And first I direct that my body be interred and that my funeral be Conducted in a manner Corresponding with my estateand situations of life and to souls worldly estate as it[?] hath pleased -- God to intrust me with I dispose of the same as follows ----

    First I direct that all my debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon after my decease as possible out of the first monies that Shall come into he hands of my Executors from any portion of my estate real or personal ---

    And Second, I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved grandson James Raney Shields [sic.] Eldest Son of my Son John Erwin Shields the sum of Two Thousand Dollars to be paid out of the proceeds of the Sale of My Real Estate into the hands of my Son John Erwin Shields [sic.] in trust for the Said James Raney Shields [sic.] ----

    -- Also I give and bequeath the portrait of my late husband to the said James Raney Shields my beloved Grandson, - And third I give and bequeath the sum of One Hundred Dollars to my friend Alijah Mansfield as a token of regard for his faithfull [sic.] erras [sic.] to be paid out of the proceeds of my Real Estate -- And forth I bequeath all my household furniture contained in the House I now live in to my -- unmarried daughters Mary Ann and Essie Shields [sic.] and to Caroline Shields [sic.] formerly intermarried with Kirk McGlathery Shall sare and Share alike --

    And fifth I give and bequeath to my daughters Mary Ann and Caroline all my personal Estate including stock and grain on my farm, also all the grain in the ground Shre and Share alike ---

    And Sixth I give and bequeath to my Children Mary Ann Shields [sic.], Maggie, intermarried with James Moffatt, Essie Shield [sic] Jane Ann intermarried with William Simpson -- Caroline, formerly intermarried with Kirk McGlathery John Erwin Shields and Josephine -- intermarried with George Simpson all my estate I die possefsed [sic.] of to be divided Share and Sare alike, between them, And I do make and ordain my Son John and my Daughter Caroline Executors of this my last will and testament ---

    In witness whereof I Mary Ann Shields [sic.] the testator have to this my will written on these[sic.] Sheets of paper set my hand and seal this Tenth day of September A.D. One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty Six --

    To the foregoing Will of Mary Ann Sheal -- who being duly sworn according to Law, Saiith that -- They were present and Saw and heard the within named Testatrix sign, seal, publish, pronounce, and declare -- the foregoing instrument of writing as and for her last will and testament , and that at the time of so doing She was of sound mind, Memory and understanding, to the best of their knowledge and belief, and that they subscribed their names to the same as Witnefses in presence of the said Testatrix -- and her request and in the presence of Each other. --

    Sworn and Subscribed before me thiis 1st day
    of November AD. 1876 as to M. B. Robinson
    & March 22nd 1877 as to Elizabeth Fribee
