Born in Muncie, Indiana, to Arvel and Denzel Emmert, Lloyd was a graduate of Princeton High School, Princeton, Indiana. In 1943, Lloyd entered the Army Air Corps where he served as a B-24 bomber air pilot. Prior to serving in the European arena, he met Opal Marie Studebaker, Indianapolis, the great love of his life. After seven grueling and dangerous months and 36 bombing missions, he returned to Indianapolis, where he and Opal wed in May 1945. Lloyd continued to serve in the Air Force Reserves for 20 years, including a year's recall to active duty during the Korean War. Lloyd and Opal had three children, Elaine, Pam and Greg, during the time in which he worked as a real estate broker for Studebaker Realty Company in Indianapolis. In 1958, the family moved to California, residing in Covina. Lloyd then undertook another career with Cal Trans, where he retired as Chief of Right of Way in Los Angeles. During his retirement years, Lloyd was caregiver for Opal, who predeceased him in 2001. Since then, he was a volunteer for Citrus-Valley Hospice, member of Covina United Methodist Church, and an occasional golfer. He spent many weekends and vacations with family.

Lloyd will be greatly missed by his children Elaine Marie (Irish) Hodges of San Diego, California; Pamela Anne (Crismon) Thompson of Palm City, Florida; Gregory Lloyd Emmert of Chandler, Arizona; his grandchildren Shannon Irish, Ryan Irish, Mike Crismon, Sara Crismon, Nicole Emmert and Joel Emmert; as well as his close nephewJack Emmert.

On August 5th, 1:00 pm, a military memorial service will be held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.
