Born in Muncie, Indiana, to Arvel and Denzel Emmert, Lloyd was a graduate of Princeton High School, Princeton, Indiana. In 1943, Lloyd entered the Army Air Corps where he served as a B-24 bomber air pilot. Prior to serving in the European arena, he met Opal Marie Studebaker, Indianapolis, the great love of his life. Lloyd and Opal had three children, Elaine, Pam and Greg, during the time in which he worked as a real estate broker for Studebaker Realty Company in Indianapolis. In 1958, the family moved to California, residing in Covina. Lloyd then undertook another career with Cal Trans, where he retired as Chief of Right of Way in Los Angeles. During his retirement years, Lloyd was caregiver for Opal, who predeceased him in 2001.
