Most of His 85 Years Lived Near Freeman
Charles Roy Duncan, who died June 10, 1963, in the St Joseph Hospital, Kansas City, at the age of 85 years and five months, spent most of his life in the vicinity of Freeman, nine miles southwest of Harrisonville.
His nativity was near that Cass County town Dec 15, 1877, his parents being Adam and Elizabeth Duncan. He was reared on the old homestead and lived there until 11 years ago, when he moved to Kansas City, his home being at 830 Smith Street until his death.
Mr Duncan was united in marriage with Kathryn Alice Jester Sept 20, 1905, who predeceased her husband on Sept 5, 1956.They were parents of seven daughters, six, of whom survive. They are Mrs Stella Peel, Mrs Della Ross, Mrs Mary B Beagle, Mrs Juanita Parker, all of Kansas City, Mrs Glada Ziegler, Wichita Kansas and Eleanor Sampson, Idaho Springs Colo. A daughter, Freda, died in infancy. There are also 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mr Duncan entered the hospital last April 29 and withstood an operation, but complications developed which caused his death. He was converted to the Christian faith and united with the Freeman Baptist Church. He was steadfast in his faith, which sustained him during his illness. Those who remember him will carry the memory of his clean, moral life.
The funeral was at 2 pm, Thursday, June 13, in the Freeman Baptist Church. The Rev Charles Sutton and the Rev Joe Brewster, Jr, of Harrisonville officiating. Two hymns were sung by Mrs Jean Majors and Mrs Bernice Whitcraft their accompanist at the piano being Mrs Evelyn Noland.
Casketbearers were Robert Davis, Glenwood Davis, Dean Jones, Jack Duncan, Earlus Duncan and Oscar Harper. Burial was in the Freeman Cemetery- Cass County Democrat Jun 18 1963

Kathryn Alice, daughter of William M and Mary Elizabeth Jester was born September 14, 1885 at Versailles, Mo and moved to Harrisonville in early childhood. On September 20, 1905, she was united in marriage to Charles R Duncan. Seven daughters were born to this union. Mrs Duncan suffered a paralytic stroke in May 1954 and has grown steadily worse until death came to her home in Kansas City Mo. She was 70 years, 11 months and 22 days old.
Mrs Duncan was converted to the Christian faith and united with the Freeman Baptist Church and remained a faithful member until her failing health kept her from attending. At this time she became a faithful listener to the services over the radio. Mr and Mrs Duncan would soon have celebrated their 50th anniversary.
She is survived by her husband of the home; these daughters. Mrs Stella Peel, Mrs Della Ross, Mrs Mary B Beagle, Mrs Juanita Parker, all of Kansas City; Mrs Eleanor Sampson, Edgerton Kan, Mrs Glada Ziegler, Wichita Kan; a brother, Ed Jester, Harrisonville; a sister, Mrs Minnie VanCamp, Kansas City; fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A daughter, Freda preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held September 8 at ? pm in the Baptist Church at Freeman by Rev Eugene Foreman, Kansas City, assisted by Rev Joe Brewster, Jr, Harrisonville. “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Beyond The Sunset” were sung by Mrs Travis Majors and Mrs John Ullery, accompanied by Mrs Pearl Suddarth.. Casketbearers were, Joe and Earlus Duncan, Robert, Glen and JY Davis and G Earnest Taylor, Burial in the Freeman Cemetery in charge of Atkinson Bros-Cass County Democrat-Sep 8, 1956
