John Sidney Woollett was known as Sidney Woollett. He was raised by his parents where his father was an English Barrister and so he was trained in public speaking from an early age. He went to America by vessel when he was young. During the trip, he amused the passengers by acting out Shakesperian plays. He had a talent for portraying each character precisely (like today's actors). More than once, he was guided to take up this "elocutionist" profession. He did so and came to fame in the Newport, R I area by reciting Longfellow's poems. He continued to act out his Shakespearean favorites also "Sidney Woollett, a record of his career as a public reciter" by George E Montgomery

Julia came from a "puritanical" old New England family. She was beautiful and reserved. When she was courted by the flamboyant Sidney Woollett, she committed herself to serving him for her lifetime. He was English. She always cared for the home and children while he traveled and associated with the rich and famous (Oliver wendell Holmes, Wild Bill Hickock, Henry wadsworth Longfellow, etc).
