James SheltonAged: 86 years
James Shelton was born in Cecil County, Maryland about 1630. He was the son of Thomas Shelton & Hannah Wood. His wife was Mary, daughter of Sir Edward Bathurst of Gloucester, England, and Sir Edward's second wife, Susan Rich, who was born 1615. James built a manor house in Westmoreland County, Virginia, called "Curioman". Later, James was clerk of York County, Virginia from 1714 to 1716. He died in York County about 1716.
It is thought that James has a direct royal line of descent from King Henry III of England, through the marriage of Roger la Warre with Eleanor, daughter of John, Lord Mowbray and his wife, Joan, daughter of Henry, Earl of Lancaster, grandson of Henry III. He also has a direct royal line through William Carey, a descendant of King Edward III.

Mary died about 1682 in Hanover County, Virginia.
