James Coutant, 73, a resident of Esopus for the past 40 years, died at his home Sunday. He was born in Port Ewen, a son of the late Norman and Hannah Post Coutant. Mr. Coutant was employed as a farmer in the Town of Esopus for many years. He was a member of the Esopus Fire Company and West Esopus Landowners Association. Mr. Coutant was also a member of Esopus Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Eva Freer, and a son, Ralph Coutant, also of Esopus. Funeral services will be held at Jenson & Deegan Funeral Home, 15 Downs Street, Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. William Robertson, pastor of Esopus Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Port Ewen. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 9 and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
