Van Norman Family p. 29
Hiram moved with his family and (probably) his father's family from Madison Township, Jefferson Cty, IN (on the Ohio River) to Liberty, Amite Co. MS, sometime in the 1820's. He appeared in the 1830 Amite Co. census and had 4 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters. His occupation was farmer/tanner. He appeared in the land and conveyance records in 1850, 1856, 1857 and 1858. Hiram is believed to have established a tannery on Tan Yard (now Speculation) Creek which he operated until the 1860's. In the 1870 census of Amite Co., MS, Hiram is shown as a shoemaher.
