He appeared in the 1830 Amite Co. census and had 4 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters. His occupation was farmer/tanner.  He appeared in the land and conveyance records in 1850, 1856, 1857 and 1858. Buffalo, New York when only 18 years old and learned the coopers
trade. After learning, he came to Madison, Indiana and workedfor Gail Borden's father for quite a number of years. There he met my mother, who was Elizabeth Saunders Walden. Mr. Borden had adopted her several years before. She was born and reared in Kentucky near Lexington in Woodford Co. Her mother, dying before she ws grown and her two older sisters having married men from Indiana, were living in Bloomington; also one brother; Grandpa Walden marrying again, the sister took my mother to live with them.

Mrs. Borden, seeing her, persuaded them to give her to them, as
they had but one child, Gail, a boy, and she so wanted a girl so she was one of the family and married my father in Borden's home and lived right near them on the Ohio River. Cyrenus, Lorena, and Willie were born there and then the Bordens and Van Normans came to Amite Co., Miss. Mr. Borden lived here for several years. Then he and two of the Van Norman boys went to Texas; Grandpa's sons, Wyburn and William, ..."
