Frederick II, Count Palatine of the Rhine (9 December 1482 in Winzingen Castle near Neustadt an der Weinstraße – 26 February 1556 in Alzey), a member of the Wittelsbach dynasty was Prince-elector of the Palatinate from 1544 to 1556.

Frederick was the fourth son of Philip, Elector Palatine and Margarete of Bavaria-Landshut.

He was custodian of the young dukes of Palatinate-Neuburg Otto Henry and Philip and then served as general for the Habsburg Ferdinand I. In March 1544 he succeeded his brother Louis V as Prince-elector of the Palatinate. He introduced the Protestant Reformation and was therefore outlawed by Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor until Frederick submitted. He was succeeded by his former ward Otto Henry. Freder

Dorothea of Denmark and Norway (10 November 1520-May 31, 1580) was the wife of the Elector Frederick II of the Palatinate.

Her parents were King Christian II of Denmark and Norway and Isabella of Austria. In 1535 she married in Heidelberg to Frederick of the Palatinate.

After the death of her husband, she lived in Palatine castle in Neumarkt, among other things, they also prevented the introduction of Protestantism, the Elector Palatine and Ottheinrich (Pfalz) successfully pushed forward the Palatinate. She died childless and was in the Holy Ghost Church in Heidelberg buried.

Her sister was Christina of Denmark, who married firstly to Francis II, Duke of Milan and then married Francis I, Duke of Lorraine on the death of her first husband.

Dorothea's maternal grandmother was Joanna of Castile, who was the daughter Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella of Castile.
