  • Obituary, 10 AUG 1948: "'Walter A. McGlathery'
    Walter A. McGlathery, of Shade Gap, Huntington County, formerly of R. D. 2, Altoona, died, Monday morning, Aug. 9, 1948, 10:30 o'clock after an illness of three years.
    He was born in Altoona, Jan. 26, 1874, the son of Allen R. and Ella (Rutherford) McGlathery. H was a resident of Altoona until 10 months ago when he moved to the home of his daughter because of his heath.
    Mr. McGlathery was educated in the Altoona public schools. He entered the employ of the PRR at the age of 15 and retired 10 years ago after 47 years of service. From his youth he was a member of the Second Avenue United Brethren Church of which he was a charter member. Mr. McGlathery was a member of Logan Lodge 490, F. and A. M., Harrisburg consistory and Jaffa Shrine.
    In 1918 he married Lulu W. Wilson of Philadelphia, who survives with one daughter, E. Grace, the Rev. Earnest L. Peterson, of Shade Gap; one sister and three brothers, Mrs. Laura Snyder, Cloyd E, Chester G. and Herbert G., all of Altoona.
    Funeral services will be held at the Laughlin Funeral Home in Altoona, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of the Rev. Householder and Rev. Schmittie. Private interment at Rose Hill cemetery at Altoona."
