William Cavendish, 1st Duke of Newcastle-upon-Tyne was baptised on 16 December 1593.1 He was the son of Sir Charles Cavendish and Catherine Ogle, Baroness Ogle.1 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Basset, daughter of William Basset and Judith Austen, circa 1618.1 He married, secondly, Margaret Lucas, daughter of Thomas Lucas, circa December 1645.1 He died on 25 December 1676 at age 83.1 William Cavendish, 1st Duke of Newcastle-upon-Tyne was invested as a Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) in 1610.1 He was educated at St. John's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for East Retford in 1614.1 He was created 1st Viscount Mansfield, co. Nottingham [England] on 29 October 1620.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire between 1626 and 1642.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Derbyshire between 1628 and 1638.1 He was created 1st Baron Cavendish of Bolsover, co.
