Dovina Terry 4 M GA (b abt 1856)
Martha Terry 2 M GA (b abt 1858)
John Carder 22 M Farm laborer Georgia (b abt 1838)

Names in the 1850 and 1860 censuses are written as normal, rather than last name first. The child John Carder is a son of Jeseph's sister Nancy, whose husband has died and her older children are dsitributed among her brothers, while the younger ones are with Nancy as she has moved back into her father's hosuehold.

Jacque Watkins reports that Joseph Lewis Terry fought in the Seminole Wars.

Jacque also references a pension file including a personal letter from Joseph Terry dated 13 September 1878 concerning sale of land by Joseph Lewis Terry to D A Walker in Dalton, Georgia. D A Walker was apparently a relative of Joseph's wife Dovina Walker. Joseph and his wife Dovina (Dovey) apparently sold the land in preparation for moving to Texas. Joseph died less than two years later in Milam County, Texas.

One family source says it was Darwar County, but I have been unable to find any reference at all to any county in Texas by this unusual name. Perhaps this was an earlier name for a county in the area. I have not found this name, however, even in old names of counties in Texas.

Likely relatives of this couple are reported in Whiterock, Wilbarger County, Texas. [Wilbarger is in north central Texas on the Red River.] Exact connections have not yet been made to Joseph F Terry and wife Catherine Biles Landers and their son Joseph L Terry, born 22 Sep 1864 In Whiterock. This Joseph's wife's name was Susie, last name unknown.

In 1860, John Carder, son of Joseph's sister Nancy, is living with George's family in Murray County, Georgia. John is 22 at that time. One source reports he was born in 1837.

Nickname of Dovie 6 July, Militia District 972, PO Rock Creek, Page 53, Hse #367, Fam #361
Terry, Joseph 46 M Farmer-Baptist Preacher SC (b abt 1813);
Terry, Dovina 37 F NC (b abt 1822)

Alternate Birth: 7 AUG 1822 Randolph County, North Carolina Jacque Watkins, 5 Dec 2005
In this discusson Jacque reports the same date of birth but reports place as Randolph County rather than Catawba County, NC.
I originally presumed her death to be in Texas. Son Duncan Lewis Terry known to have married in Fannin County, Texas. Husband Joseph Lewis Terry also died in Texas, though county is given as Darwar. Jacque Watkins, 5 Dec 2005
In this discusson Jacque provided the exact date of death and confirmed McLennan County, Texas. 6 July, Militia District 972, PO Rock Creek, Page 53, Hse #367, Fam #361
Terry, Joseph 46 M Farmer-Baptist Preacher SC (b abt 1813);
Terry, Dovina 37 F NC (b abt 1822)There is a discrepancy between sources on the place of birth. One reports Newton,
Catawba County, North Carolina. Newton is the County Seat of Catawba County. So if Newton is the correct town, then it appears Catawba is the correct county. The second source reports only a county name, Randolph County. The latter report, by Jacque Watkins, is in 5 Dec 2005, which may indicate that he had found information that corrected the earlier report by the Terry Family History website.
