Aged: 92.8 years Marion Layman and her first husband, Kenneth Anderson, served as Salvation Army officers for a short time in Brazil. After that, they served at Inglewood, Glendale, Sacramento, Long Beach and Oakland, California; Tuscon, Arizona; and as divisional youth leaders in the Oregon, Southern Idaho and Northwest divisions. Their appointment to the Sacramento Citadel Corps in Sacramento, California, was for an exceptionally long time, and the corps prospered under their command.
Following her husband's Promotion to Glory, as they call it in the Salvation Army, then Brigadier Marion Anderson served as assistant field secretary, assistant in the Personnel and Records department, and special assignment to the Chief Secretary's office. As Lt. Colonel Marion Anderson, she was secretary for Evangelism and Adult Programs.
After retiring in 1977, she moved to London, England, and married her second hsuband, Commissioner Herbert Westcott. As was the custom at the time, her rank was elevated to that of her husband.
There are two memorials for Marion Layman at Find a Grave.. One is shown below with an icon. It is the creation of this author. The other can be found at
findagrave.com
This one includes a photo of the headstone, but does not include the name of her second husband. It also shows her with her rank at the time of her first husband's death, Lt. Colonel, though she was promoted to Commissioner at her second marriage. I have not been successful in getting the creator of this memorial to delete it and add his photo to the one I had created before. However, if one wishes to see the headstone, his memorial is the one to see.
