Corporal Charles E, Alexander Son of Charles F. and Alda Alexander, was born May 6, 1922 and departed this life January 9, 1945 at the age of 22 years, eight months and three days.
His life, until he was inducted into the U.S. Army was spent in Randolph County. He was called into service in November of 1942. He had his basic and guard training at Miami Beach, Fla., and later took radio training at Fort Monmouth, N.J. He was stationed at Camp Pinedale, Hammers field and Hamilton field, all located in California. He took his overseas training at Salt Lake City, Utah, after which he was sent to the south west Pacific area where he participated in four major battles and it was into last battle that he collapsed on the field and never recoved.
He was brought to San Francisco on a hospital ship, arriving Jan. 9, 1945.
Charles was of a quiet, unassuming nature and was well liked by all who knew him.
He was united in marriage with Betty Morris, Nov. 19, 1943, while at home on the only furlough he was granted. He returned to camp the following day and later his wife joined him in California where she remained until he was sent overseas.
He leaves to mourn their loss, a wife, father and mother, two brothers, William ststioned at Tyndall Field, Fla., and James, four sisters, Mrs. Cecil Wood of Winchester, Mrs. Charles Jones of Muncie and Edith and Mary at Home. One brother , Donald Lee , preceded him in death .

Betty June Alexander, 70, 305 South High Street, Union City, In., died early Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1993 at Randolph County Hospital in Winchester.
She was born in Winchester, the daughter of Luther and Mary (Thomburg) Morris. She attended the Pentecostal Church. She was the widow of Charles Alexander.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Alexander of Richmond and Dennis Alexander of Winchester; one daughter, Charlene Middaugh of Union City, In.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister , Marjorie Smock of Winchester.
