Graveside services for Mrs. Barbara Sonnen, 92, of Eufaula, were held at 5 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2014 in Fairview Cemetery Addition. The Rev. Brian Copeland officiated with Chapman Funeral Home of Eufaula directing. Mrs. Sonnen died Thursday, March 20, 2014 at River Oaks Assisted Living in Eufaula. Born February 1, 1922 in Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. Sonnen was the daughter of the late Harry Stanley and Gladys McDaniel Hastings Sr. Mrs. Sonnen attended Agnes Scott College and the University of Georgia. She married Donald Taylor Sonnen of Evanston, IL during Word War II. After the war, they moved to Fort Collins, CO where Don finished his degree in Forestry from Colorado State University. They moved to Forsyth, GA and then to Eufaula in 1968. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Eufaula where she was a loyal member of the Presbyterian Women. She was active in the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts. She was a former member of The Garden Club of Eufaula, the Symposium Club, the Eufaula Heritage Association and the Pink Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by husband Donald Taylor Sonnen and her brother Harry Stanley Hastings, Jr. Survivors include her children: David Hastings (Linda) Sonnen of Bellvue, CO, Virginia Sonnen (Daniell) Hamby of Yardley, PA, Laura Sonnen (Arnie) Cutchen of Eufaula, AL; 4 grandchildren: Richard Stanley Sonnen of Ft. Collins, CO, Kelly Cutchen (Kyle) Talley of Birmingham, AL, Elizabeth Lee Hamby of New York, NY, Hannah Sonnen Hamby of Atlanta GA; 1 sister: Judith Hastings Camp of Decatur.
