Mrs. Bagby is Killed By Hit And Run Driver
Although county and city officers conducted an intensive search for the hit and run auto driver who killed Mrs. Maggie Bagby, 65, at the intersection of Central avenue and Harold street Sunday night, no trace could be found yesterday. Her body was found about 7:30 o'clock Sunday night by Gust Schimke lying in the intersection with her skull fratured and with other serious injuries. Schimke was on his was to church when he made the discovery.
It is believed that the body had lain in the street for several minutes before it was discovered. Mrs. Bagby resided at 828 South Washington street but had been visiting her friend, Mrs Tyler, at 424 Harold street. She was on her way home when the accident occurred.
Mrs. Bagby was the mother of Mrs. Mabel Smith of Escalon and aunt of Mrs. Harry Nunally of Woodbridge. She was the daughter of the late Robert H. Brown, a pioneer resident of Lodi, who engaged in the livery stable business here in the sixties.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the chapel of Hale & Bawden with Elder Adams of the English Adventist church officiating. Interment will be in Lodi cemetery.
